Made-to-measure furniture is the most effective way to use every centimetre of a space and to conceal irregularities in walls and services. Kitchen units, wardrobes, hall storage, TV units and bathroom cabinets are the most commonly requested items. The result depends on discipline in material, hardware and measurement.
When does bespoke make sense?
- Walls are not square and corners are not true
- There are recesses, columns and service pipes
- Ceiling height is non-standard (floor-to-ceiling units wanted)
- The kitchen is L-shaped, U-shaped or has an island and standard modules do not fit
- A specific colour, door style or internal layout is required
In any of these cases, ready-made furniture either leaves gaps or has to be cut to fit.
Carcass and door materials
| Material | Use | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Melamine chipboard | Carcasses, shelves | Economical, wide colour range |
| MDF | Doors, lacquer finishes, routed detail | Dense, smooth, paintable |
| Moisture-resistant MDF/chipboard | Bathroom, under-sink | Resists swelling in damp |
| Lacquer | Door surface | Gloss or matt, colour freedom, mark sensitive |
| Acrylic / PVC foil | Door surface | Gloss finish, easy to clean |
| Solid wood / veneer | Doors, worktops | Natural texture, higher cost |
Chipboard carcasses with lacquered or veneered MDF doors is a common and well-balanced combination.
Why hinges, runners and hardware decide the outcome
Furniture lifespan is determined not by the carcass but by the moving parts. Soft-close hinges, full-extension telescopic runners, good handles and internal organisers make the difference in daily use. Stating the hardware brand and type in the quotation is what makes comparison meaningful.
Planning a kitchen
- The work triangle: the distance between hob, sink and fridge determines how efficiently the kitchen works.
- Worktop height: can be adjusted to the user’s height.
- Service points: sink, dishwasher and hob positions must match the water and electrical lines — which is why the kitchen design must be settled before the services.
- Appliance dimensions: oven, microwave and extractor models must be chosen before units are made.
- Worktop material: quartz, granite, marble and laminate differ in durability and cost.

How the process works
- On-site measurement: walls, ceiling, services and appliance positions are measured.
- Design and approval: drawings, material and colour selections are submitted for approval.
- Production: cutting, edge banding, lacquer or veneer in the workshop.
- Installation: on-site assembly, adjustment and final check.
Installation takes place after painting and flooring are complete, so the furniture is not damaged and wall-to-floor junctions close neatly.
Demgirişim designs made-to-measure furniture alongside the services plan, and installs kitchens, wardrobes and bathroom units at the right stage of the renovation.
Frequently asked questions
Ready-made or made-to-measure?
In rooms with standard dimensions and square walls, ready-made can be economical. In spaces with recesses, projections or unusual dimensions, bespoke units use every centimetre and leave no gaps.
Chipboard or MDF?
Melamine-faced chipboard is economical and common for carcasses; MDF is denser and preferred for doors and lacquered finishes. Moisture-resistant boards should be used in damp areas such as bathrooms.
How long does a bespoke kitchen take?
It runs through measurement, design approval, production and installation; the total depends on design complexity and workshop schedules. The timeline is set at design approval.
